According to the Puranas, when the Pandavas were in Virat Nagari, spending their post exile (“Vanvas“) one year incognito (“Agyatvas“), they learned that Shrikrishna and Jambavati’s son, Saamb, had married Duryodhan’s daughter, Laxmana.
It so happened, that Saamb and Laxmana, Duryodhan’s daughter, used to like each other.
However, Duryodhan was against their marriage.
Hence, Saamb went to Hastinapur and kidnapped Laxmana.
Actually, instead of supporting this alliance, Duryodhan chased Saamb and Laxmana.
He sent Laxmana to the Hastinapur palace.
And Saamb to prison.
Knowing this people in Dwarka got upset and angry.
Yuvraj Balaram attacked Hastinapur with mighty army of Dwarka and after a fierce battle defeated Duryodhan’s army.
Balaram released his nephew Saamb from the Hastinapur prison.
He brought Saamb and Laxmana to Dwarka and organized their marriage in a lavish ceremony.
Hearing about this Pandavs got worried, thinking that now Shrikrishna will take Kaurava’s side. But, Shrikrishna assured them of being on their side, which is the side of truth and Dharm. He sent a message to Draupadi that, he has lined up monumental assignments for Pandavs, which he wants to get them done, once they come out of incognito.
Shrikrishna didn’t get involved in this whole episode and kept quiet, as during Pandavas life in incognito, he didn’t want to upset his brother Balaram.
